These days, it is amazing how the use of social media has grown around the world. The possibilities that this form of communication has given us are incredible, especially when someone decides to do something good with it. My Friday social media class has given me the opportunity to meet an amazing foundation called “Fetch”. Fetch helps with providing dogs foster homes until they are ready to be adopted. While meeting these people and the dogs, we were assigned to live tweet about the foundation.

To my surprise, this task did not feel like an assignment at all! In fact, it was really fun to tweet information and pictures on twitter to help those little pupper’s find a foster home. In the beginning of class, I was a little nervous about generating the tweets, but after, I realized we had nothing to worry about because we were helping a good cause. Fetch brought two of their workers (and puppies) to us, and fed us information about their foundation and its mission. In the midst of playing with the dogs, we had to format tweets with this information and tweet them out. It was super easy and super fun.

It is safe to say that my classmates and I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I would say, it was the best one we will have. Nothing makes class better than being able to play with dogs the whole time, am I right? It was a new task that most of us hadn’t participated in, but this special foundation made it the most pleasant experience ever. The tweets we sent out had good results and lots of interactions. After class I checked my Twitter and saw that a few of my tweets had gotten favorites and retweets. Going into this class I knew I was going to be live tweeting, but none of my followers did. The fact that they gave these tweets gained attention was rewarding, because it did exactly what they were intended to do.

Social media has a funny way of connecting our world, and in many ways can be used to our benefit. Live tweeting was definitely a good experience, and it felt rewarding that I could possibly help one of the dogs find a foster home. The use of social media provides our voices with a bigger platform, and when it comes to helping these special kinds of foundations, the use is quite valuable!
